Part of Garden Hills Drive closing for construction in Champaign

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Starting next week, a portion of Garden Hills Drive will be fully closed to traffic due to construction.

On May 27, the road will be closed from the south leg of the Paula Drive/Garden Hills Drive intersection to the point where Garden Hills Drive ends just before the train tracks. During the construction in this section, residents will be unable to access or exit their driveways.

Nevertheless, residents are allowed to park on the street in areas where parking is permissible, though not within the designated construction area. Walkway access to all residences will be kept open throughout the construction period.

This project is anticipated to take six to eight weeks to complete, dependent on weather conditions, which could cause delays if there is bad weather. Furthermore, additional lane or road closures will be communicated as different phases of the project progress.

Drivers are asked to use alternate routes to avoid the road closure. All 2025 City Engineering Division projects can be found on the city’s Construction Projects website.
