SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — Fire crews are on the scene of a gas leak at a Springfield airport, and some buildings have been evacuated.

Assistant Chief Julie Plunk of the Springfield Fire Department informed WCIA that the department was alerted to a gas leak at Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport at 11:13 a.m. A two-inch gas line was broken about 50 feet away from the Standard AERO facility at the airport.

For safety reasons, both the Standard AERO building and several other airport buildings have been evacuated. Firefighters are on the scene, equipped with a hose line as a precaution against any potential ignition. They are presently standing by as crews work to shut off two valves to halt the leak.

Plunk said utility crews are also on scene and that no injuries have been reported during this incident.

WCIA reached out to the airport for more information but did not receive an immediate response.

This is a developing story. WCIA will provide updates as information is received.
