GBI probes death of wanted man who barricaded in home

HINESVILLE, Ga. () — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating the death of a wanted Maryland man who barricaded himself in a home.

A press release from the GBI early Saturday revealed that Daquan Phillips, 26, was discovered with a gunshot wound following officials’ entry into the home where he had barricaded himself.

The incident occurred after hours of unsuccessful communication with Phillips.

Phillips was later pronounced dead by the Liberty County Coroner’s Office (LCCO).

A 5-year-old child was found in the home, unharmed.

Various law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, such as the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, the Hinesville Police Department, Savannah Police Department SWAT, the McIntosh County Sheriff’s Office, and Georgia State Patrol.

GBI stated that Phillips’ body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Pooler where an autopsy will be performed.

This is an ongoing investigation.
