GEORGETOWN, Ill. (WCIA) — No one is hurt after a Georgetown house was destroyed by a fire over the weekend.

A fire broke out at 305 Garfield Street early on Saturday morning. Captain Darrell Starwalt of the Georgetown Fire Protection District reported that firefighters were dispatched at 12:30 a.m. and remained at the location for four hours.

The fire protection district also posted details of the fire on Facebook.

“The situation was managed swiftly, thanks to the assistance of several fire departments,” officials stated. “In total, 42 crew members were on-site, including EMS, Vermilion County Deputies, Georgetown Police, the City of Georgetown, and Ameren. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the following departments for their assistance with the fire.”

The fire departments assisting included Westville Fire Protection District, Tilton Fire Department, Catlin Fire Protection District, Sidell Fire Department, Ridge Farm Fire Department, Lynch Fire Department, and Chrisman Fire Department.

Despite the rapid intervention and success in controlling the fire, the house was completely destroyed. Starwalt mentioned that the home was unoccupied, and fortunately, no injuries occurred.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.

“We’re just waiting on the fire investigators to be there Tuesday, and we’ll be able to determine more of what happened,” Starwalt said.
