An inmate from the Georgia Department of Corrections has faced sentencing after it was discovered that he crafted and sent two explosive devices while imprisoned.

David Dwayne Cassady, aged 57, received an 80-year sentence in federal prison, having admitted to two charges of attempting to use explosive materials with malicious intent.

Authorities gathered evidence showing that Cassady, during his incarceration in a Georgia state prison, assembled two bombs. He subsequently mailed these explosives to the U.S. Courthouse in Anchorage, Alaska, and the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C.

Upon being convicted, Cassady received two consecutive sentences of 480 months each. This sentence will be followed by a five-year period of supervised release as mandated by the court.
