STATESBORO, Ga. () — The Georgia Southern Eagles achieved an impressive 516 yards of total offense and secured 28 first downs in their decisive victory over Maine on Saturday at Paluson Stadium.
With the win, the Eagles improved to 2-2 on the season and have now won back-to-back games for the first time.
Georgia Southern spread the offensive attack among several players. Six different Eagles scored touchdowns against Maine’s defense.
Quarterback J.C. French IV went 19-for-31 for 253 passing yards on the night. French also threw for one touchdown and an interception.
“I think we just started playing our game,” said French. “We took what they were giving us, ran the ball, and the offensive line performed excellently tonight.”
Georgia Southern only led by three points at halftime, and then outscored Maine by 25 points in the second half.
“It was really a tale of two halves,” said head Coach Clay Helton. “We moved the ball offensively but weren’t playing clean football, which serves as a valuable lesson for our offense.”
The Eagles’ next game will be on the road against James Madison on Saturday, Sept. 27. at 1:30 p.m.
