(NEXSTAR) – Target is once again poised to roll out a program favored by parents looking to create more space at home – the annual car seat trade-in event.

Parents who bring in expired or no longer needed car seats can exchange them at a local Target store for a 20% discount on new seats, bases, travel systems, or select baby home gear, which includes items like play yards, high chairs, swings, rockers, bouncers, walkers, entertainers, and jumpers.

Target says trade-ins, which can be done from Sept. 21 through Oct. 4, 2025, will be accepted at drop-off boxes near guest services.

To avail of the discount, participants must be enrolled in the Target Circle rewards program. Customers can scan signs placed near the drop boxes to access the Circle offer, which can be used twice prior to its expiration on Oct. 18, 2025.

Target, which initiated the trade-in initiative in 2016, states, “materials from the old car seats will be recycled by Target’s partners to create new products such as pallets, plastic buckets, construction materials such as steel beams and carpet padding, and select Brightroom items.”

All stores will be participating, with the exception of small format locations.

Alternate solutions for disposing of an old car seat include consulting local recycling programs or exploring donation and drop-off possibilities at recycleyourcarseat.org.
