CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — A group you might recognize for the boxes of cookies they sell has gotten an upgrade in Champaign.

The Girl Scouts of Central Illinois celebrated the grand opening of their new service center on Sunday. Leadership within the organization mentioned the necessity for a new facility to better serve some of the scouts in the region.

The new facility is three times the size of the previous one and will be utilized for programs and meetings. Additionally, it includes a boutique. Overall, this branch supports 10,000 girls across 38 counties in the area.

There is one especially big piece that they’re most excited — it’s one that no other Girl Scout center has.

“Build-A-Bear and Girl Scouts have had a strong partnership for quite some time. Essentially, Build-A-Bear was founded to allow kids more autonomy over their purchasing decisions, ensuring that their selections hold personal significance. At Girl Scouts, we aim for girls to feel empowered, making strategic and thoughtful choices, whether those are related to financial matters or personal preferences,” stated Jennifer Sedbrook, CEO of Girl Scouts of Central Illinois.

She added that the Build-A-Bear workshop is open to anyone.

During Sunday’s event, the attendees celebrated the new building with an ice cream truck, activities, inflatables, and live music.
