(NewsNation) — Chef Gordon Ramsay revealed that he underwent surgery to remove skin cancer from his face.
On Saturday, the British restaurateur shared an Instagram post, revealing a section of his jaw and neck covered with bandages. He expressed gratitude to the “amazing team” at The Skin Associates for successfully removing Basal Cell Carcinoma.
“Please don’t forget your sunscreen this weekend. I promise you it’s not a face lift! I’d need a refund,” he jokingly wrote.
What is Basal Cell Carcinoma
Basal Cell Carcinoma is a form of skin cancer known to present as slightly transparent bumps on the skin’s surface. It originates in the basal cells, which are the cells responsible for creating new skin cells as older ones are shed, according to the Mayo Clinic.
The cancer is usually found in parts of the skin that are typically exposed to the sun, such as your head and neck.
The Mayo Clinic suggests avoiding the sun and using sunscreen to protect against Basal Cell Carcinoma.
Individuals diagnosed with this type of skin cancer can opt for surgical removal, which is the method Ramsay opted for. Alternatively, they may choose other treatments such as radiation therapy.
