GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Greene County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after a home was reportedly set on fire Monday afternoon.

According to a report from the sheriff’s department, deputies were called to an arson on Bolton Rd at 12:46 p.m.

A witness reported to deputies that a man had visited her home earlier, requesting a bowl of cereal. During his visit, the witness noted that the man was speaking erratically about inappropriate subjects.

The witness mentioned that after the man left to return home, she noticed another individual in the vicinity running past and warning others that the victim’s house was ablaze.

The three people inside the home were warned by neighbors, who had reportedly heard the house was on fire from the man who asked for cereal.

The report states that the man who told others about the fire did not at any point notify the people inside the burning home.

The victims informed deputies that they had argued with the man the previous day and asked him to leave. It was also reported that he had previously threatened to set their house on fire.

Deputies located the man near Bolton Trailer Park and detained him. He was taken to the Greene County Detention Center for questioning, and his cell phone was taken as evidence.

The sheriff’s department report did not list any charges, and none of the individuals involved were classified as a suspect as of its approval on Monday shortly after 4:30 p.m.
