Harristown Fire offering new digital alerts for Decatur drivers

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — The Harristown Fire Protection District is bolstering road safety throughout Decatur with new digital alerts for motorists.

HAAS Alert’s Safety Cloud technology provides notifications to nearby drivers when Harristown Fire emergency vehicles are on the move for an incident. These alerts will appear directly on the in-dash systems of 2024 or newer Volkswagen models and on 2018 and newer models of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram vehicles.

Additionally, these notifications can be accessed through navigation apps like Waze and Apple Maps. Harristown Fire reports that Safety Cloud enhances road safety by allowing drivers extra time to slow down and yield, thereby reducing collision risks by up to 90% and aiding in adherence to “Illinois Move Over Laws.”

“Let’s unite to make our roads safer for everyone — share this information with friends and family to raise awareness of this life-saving technology,” Harristown Fire stated in a Facebook post.
