HCSO: Suspect charged with first degree murder after Hawkins County homicide

CHURCH HILL, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office has detained a suspect who faces charges related to a homicide after a man was discovered deceased inside a residence on Wednesday.

As stated in a news release from the HCSO, deputies were dispatched to a reported shooting at a home on Rocky Hill Lane in Church Hill at approximately 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday.

Upon arrival, deputies found a deceased male, later identified by police as Shamond Harris, 22, inside the home.

Daquion Carter, 31, was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.

During their investigation, authorities were directed to Cradic Road in Surgoinsville, where a search ensued. Detective Brian Boggs and K-9 Deputy Xeno found a firearm in a wooded area during the search, believed to be the murder weapon, according to an update released on Wednesday night.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation assisted in the investigation. The HCSO said the case spanned three counties.

No additional suspects are being sought at this time. Carter is currently being held at the Hawkins County Jail.
