Herff Jones expanding corporations in Arcola, leaving Champaign

Herff Jones Grows Operations in Arcola, Moves Away from Champaign

A well-known manufacturing company responsible for supplying many caps and gowns for graduation ceremonies in Central Illinois plans to move its operations from one location to another.

The Herff Jones Plant, currently situated in Champaign, will shut down and expand its operations in Douglas County. Over the upcoming months, the company will gradually exit Champaign and relocate employees to Arcola and Indianapolis.

This transition will affect around 90 jobs, including positions like supervisors and distribution. Executive Vice President Andy Penca mentioned that the building in Champaign has been there for 50 years, and the decision to leave the beloved city is a tough one.

“It’s it’s difficult. You know, I started with Herff Jones four years ago and a good portion of the beginning of my time at Herff Jones I spent working in this facility and in Arcola packing and shipping boxes,” Penca said. “So I’ve gotten to know a lot of the people here personally and worked alongside them. So it’s difficult. It’s challenging.”

The Champaign plant is expected to close next march.
