MANITOWOC, Wis. (WFRV) A high-speed pursuit in Wisconsin that reached speeds of over 100 mph ended after the driver crashed into a Shell gas station sign and fled on foot, according to deputies with the Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say they were warned of an “erratic” driver on Interstate 43 on the evening of June 6. The SUV was reportedly seen slowing down, accelerating rapidly, and swerving between lanes.

When a deputy spotted the SUV near Manitowoc, the deputy says a traffic stop was attempted, but the driver drove away at speeds between 90 and 110 mph.

After exiting I-43, the SUV suddenly crashed into the support poles of the Shell gas station sign on Highway V.

The driver, later identified as a 23-year-old man from Milwaukee, fled the crash on foot. A short time later, he was found and taken into custody and taken to a local hospital for treatment before being booked into the Manitowoc County Jail.

Deputies say the man did not have a valid driver’s license and was arrested on two active warrants out of Milwaukee County and now faces the following charges of fleeing from an officer and two counts of bail jumping.

No additional information was provided.
