Highlights: Tuscola, Monticello host girls' track sectionals

CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) – Thursday night saw more tickets to the state track and field meet punched as several local teams competed around the area.

The top two finishers in each event, plus others with qualifying marks/ times, advance to the state meet May 22-24.

Monticello was host for a 2A girls’ track and field sectional.

The Unity Rockets finished atop the team scores with 137 points. Mt. Zion was second at 115, while Taylorville scored 58.5 points to finish third.

In 1A at Tuscola, the hosting Warriors secured the leading team position even though a weather delay prevented the completion of the day’s final event (4×400) on Thursday. Tuscola scored 118 team points across 17 out of 18 events. Shelbyville holds the second spot with 82 points, while Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond is in third place with 76 points.
