CARTER COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Closing arguments concluded on Monday in the trial of two Carter County brothers accused of murdering their father.
Jacob and Joshua Hitchcock are both charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. Prosecutors claim they conspired to murder their father, William “Bill” Hitchcock, due to his intentions to sell property they were set to inherit.
In 2023, Bill Hitchcock’s body was discovered on his Elizabethton property by fishermen on the Watauga River. An autopsy revealed he had been shot three times.
Both the prosecution and defense rested their cases on Friday, but before the defense rested, Joshua Hitchcock chose to testify.
While on the stand, Joshua Hitchcock said he did kill his father, but he claimed he killed Bill Hitchcock in self-defense.
The jury will receive instructions and begin deliberating after lunch on Monday.
This is a developing story.
