House Speaker Mike Johnson postpones Israeli Knesset speech

House Speaker Mike Johnson delays his speech to the Israeli Knesset

() House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., on Monday announced he has postponed his Israeli Knesset speech previously scheduled for this weekend’s special session.

“Due to the complex situation currently unfolding in Iran and Israel, Speaker Ohana and I have made the decision to postpone the special session of the Knesset,” Johnson said in a statement. “We look forward to rescheduling the address in the near future and send our prayers to the people of Israel and the Middle East.”

The cancellation also comes as negotiations for a ceasefire continue between Israel and Hamas. The two nations ended a previously negotiated ceasefire in March, imposing a blockade on Gaza and resuming military operations in the Gaza Strip.

Johnson has been a staunch supporter of Israel and has backed the country in its continued war against Hamas and now its most recent battle with Iran.

Johnson last spoke to the Knesset in May 2023.
