Tips for running AC units efficiently during extreme heat

AUGUSTA, Ga. () – With the thermometer set to climb past 100 degrees in the coming days, companies like Bailey’s Comfort Services are gearing up to tackle the increased demand for air conditioning services.

“Flexibility is key for us; we’re adjusting our schedule to make sure our technicians can respond quickly to urgent no-cool calls, especially those without functioning air conditioning,” explained Hank Gautreaux, Bailey’s Comfort Services’ Project Manager.

With high temperatures and high humidity, the harder A/C units are having to work causing more potential for failure.

Gautreaux says for this time of year to have your fans set to counterclockwise.

“When fall arrives with its first cool breeze, that’s when you should reverse your ceiling fan. This change will help circulate air upward, avoiding a chilly draft during winter. And once spring brings warmth again, switch back to a counterclockwise rotation,” Gautreaux advised.

He adds, if possible, to not be going in and out of your house or opening windows too frequently letting the hot air in.

Another tip is to not run your thermostat up and down, Gautreaux says to find a comfortable temperature and leave it where it is at.

“It’s not something you can do last minute, but you definitely want to have your maintenances done on your system. Have the tune ups done, it’s just like changing the oil in your car, you want to keep that system operating at peak performance and efficiency,” said Gautreaux.

Gautreaux says if it has been more than 30 days since you have last checked your filters to change them out especially if you have pets, so they don’t get clogged.

If you notice any changes to your air conditioning, be sure to call a heating and air company near you.
