SAVANNAH, Ga. () — Hundreds of people got together Saturday morning to participate in the third annual Patriot Day 5K Run.
The collaboration between Fort Stewart-Hunter and the City of Savannah aims to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001. This event brings together first responders and the community for a 5K run.
“I hope the younger generation now understands the real-life implication that freedom isn’t free,” stated Mayor Van Johnson. “Every day, there are individuals—not just on our city streets, but also in various theatres worldwide—working to protect us.”
This is the third year the City has partnered with Fort Stewart-Hunter.
“I was already serving on 9/11, and it profoundly influenced my career,” expressed Lt. Col. Derek Taylor. “That day, I chose to enter active duty and serve my country, so this holds immense significance for me.”
