CENTRAL ILLINOIS (WCIA) — Almost 30 individuals were cited or arrested in Vermilion and Macon Counties after the Illinois State Police conducted nighttime enforcement patrols in August.
On Monday, the State Police shared the outcomes of their patrols, highlighting their focus on preventing, detecting, and enforcing actions against violations during nighttime hours.

According to State Police, alcohol and drug impairment play a role in over 47% of all fatal crashes statewide. Additionally, an alcohol-related traffic death occurs every 39 minutes across the country.
More than half of the fatal accidents in Illinois take place at night. The State Police assert that their nighttime enforcement program is vital in enhancing road safety during these hours.
The enforcement program was funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
