ORLANDO, Fla. – One of my favorite segments of Trooper Steve on Patrol isn’t just about traffic, construction zones, or the intricacies of Florida law.

It’s the candid conversations that unfold inside Results-1.

So, when we recently welcomed a new face to the WKMG News 6 team, I knew we had to do something special: take a ride in the truck.

Community correspondent Ashley Garrett joined me for an episode of Trooper Steve on Patrol. From the moment she stepped into Results-1, it was like reuniting with an old friend.

That’s the unique charm of these rides. There’s no desk, no glaring studio lights, and no pre-written scripts—just genuine conversation.

Ashley is a true Central Floridian, and her deep local roots are evident. Having spent years honing her journalism skills, she’s returned to her hometown to share the stories of the community that shaped her. This full-circle moment is what makes our newsroom thrive.

And if that wasn’t exciting enough, Ashley is also getting ready for a brand-new chapter in her life. Her family is growing, and she’s expecting a baby girl very soon. Between traffic lights and turns through town, we talked about balancing work, life, family, and the passion that keeps journalists chasing stories every single day.

That’s what I love most about these Patrol rides. They’re not just about where we’re driving, they’re about who we are.

The laughs, the honesty, and the shared experiences give you a real glimpse behind the scenes of the people you see on your screen every day.

At News 6, we spend a lot of time talking to the community. Moments like this remind me how important it is to also talk with each other. Ashley’s energy, heart, and connection to Central Florida fit right in, and I’m excited for you to get to know her just like I did, one mile at a time.

Along with being a News 6 community correspondent, Ashley will also anchor the News 6 weekend evening broadcasts.
