AUGUSTA, Ga. () – The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting just off Broad Street, Friday morning.
The incident happened at Curry and Brown Street behind Family Dollar.
Authorities report that 39-year-old Larry Meminger was struck by gunfire several times. Following the shooting, Meminger escaped to a nearby establishment, Aikens Tires, to dial 911. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital for medical care.
The shooting reportedly occurred after an argument and over 20 shots were fired.
Around 1 p.m., officers spotted the suspect’s vehicle, identified as a white Chevy Tahoe. When they tried to stop the vehicle, the suspect took off, sparking a chase. The suspect crashed into another car at the intersection of 2nd Street and Watkins Street, then attempted to flee on foot before being captured by authorities.
The driver of the 2nd vehicle was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The suspect’s name has not yet been released.
