JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. () — Historic Pier Road on Jekyll Island is ready for its closeup.
The Jekyll Island Authority has revealed the launch of The District Shops. Situated in the core of the Jekyll Island National Historic Landmark District, this shopping and dining hotspot has been in the works for nearly two years. It presents eight new venues for guests and locals to shop, enjoy beverages, and taste all that Jekyll has to provide.
In its “gilded age,” the area was originally occupied by buildings and trade establishments. Enhancements in landscaping, lighting, and outdoor gathering spaces, while maintaining the original architectural essence, ensure that The District Shops will be a major attraction for tourists.
Mark Williams, Executive Director of the Jekyll Island Authority, expresses their enthusiasm for the changes that restore the area to its former glory. “This project mirrors our ongoing dedication to preserving Jekyll Island’s historic essence while improving the visitor and resident experience. It strikes a thoughtful equilibrium between preservation and advancement, crafted to serve the community and cherish the unique spirit of this island. Pier Road has historically been a focal point for interaction and exploration, and we’re proud to uphold that heritage with The District Shops.”
