JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — On Monday night, the Jonesborough Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted in favor of increasing the speed limit on a segment of Boones Creek Road.
Previously set at 30 mph, the speed limit will now be raised to 45 mph on the one-mile stretch of Boones Creek Road heading north from the Jonesborough town boundary and East Jackson Blvd.
Mayor Kelly Wolfe noted that the reduction from 45 to 30 mph last year led to a decline in accidents, with insights from public safety officials suggesting that a balanced speed might maintain safety while enhancing traffic flow.
Wolfe added that a new traffic circle in the area will help.
“The installation of a traffic circle near Parsons Circle, which will connect to the new school and has received approval and funding from TDOT, is a key factor. We appreciate this support, and the revised speed limits consider the expected traffic changes once the circle is operational,” Wolfe stated.
