The Jonesborough Board of Aldermen has enacted a two-year suspension on the establishment of bitcoin mining operations and data centers within the town’s boundaries.

This decision aligns Jonesborough with other nearby areas like Bristol and Johnson City, which have also put temporary bans in place. These bans are intended to provide time for evaluating their effects and developing effective regulations.

“I believe our plan is to take some time to thoroughly examine the matter and return with what we consider to be a balanced proposal,” Mayor Kelly Wolfe mentioned to News Channel 11.

An attempt to implement a moratorium in Johnson County failed last month.
