KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — In a move to better regulate the burgeoning tech industry, the Kingsport Board of Mayor and Aldermen has taken a significant step by approving an ordinance aimed at setting development and location standards for data centers and cryptocurrency mining operations. During Tuesday night’s meeting, the ordinance was passed unanimously on its first reading. Rather than imposing a ban on these facilities, the ordinance seeks to establish clear guidelines regarding their placement and development within the community. This proactive approach aims to balance the needs of the tech industry with those of the local residents and environment.
