ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – On Friday night, the Ormond Beach community gathered to honor the memory of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. The event attracted several hundred people, who came bearing American flags and handmade signs.

The event, organized by local residents, was described as both emotional and healing for those who attended.

“I didn’t anticipate such a large turnout, but I am extremely proud of our community and everyone who showed up for this occasion,” the event’s organizer remarked.

Attendees fondly remembered Kirk as a husband, father, and Christian who had a significant influence on their lives, even if there were occasional disagreements with his views.

“I’ve been watching Charlie Kirk since 2020,” one attendee said. “He was a good man, a good father, a good husband, a good Christian.”

Local leaders, including Ormond Beach’s mayor, said the crowd reflected the community’s need to grieve together.

The mayor expressed, “I’m both surprised and thrilled by the strong turnout. In times like these, it’s vital for us to mourn our losses and unite as a community.”

Several attendees noted the challenges of processing graphic images circulating online following Kirk’s death.

One person who came to pay their respects shared, “It’s been tough. I’ve felt upset and afraid over the past few days. We’re in a dark place right now, and it shouldn’t be like this.”

Others said the gathering represented not only grief but also a sense of unity.

Another resident commented, “I find this to be very patriotic. The recent events were incredibly tragic, and this gathering showcases the community’s solidarity and the spirit of our country.”

Community members said they hoped the vigil reminded people of the importance of free expression and belonging.

“Charlie Kirk stood for truth,” one attendee said. “We believe in the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
