LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A teacher’s assistant allegedly physically fought with a child, leaving him with bruises, according to documents that affiliate KLAS obtained.

Alicia Fletcher, 31, faces charges of attempted child abuse or neglect, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and battery, records said.

Fletcher was employed with the district since July 2024 as a specialized teacher assistant, last assigned to Red Rock Elementary School, the district said after her arrest. The school is located near Alta Drive and Jones Boulevard.

On Thursday, April 24, a student at the school reported to an employee that Fletcher allegedly injured him on the playground, causing bruising to his eye, documents said.

Fletcher later told officers she and the student “were throwing ‘rocks’ at each other and then things escalated after [the student] became angry,” documents said.

The student and Fletcher then started physically fighting, according to police.

Video surveillance showed Fletcher and the student throwing “pebbles” at each other and then “struggling back and forth,” documents said. At one point, the video showed “Fletcher [using] her legs to hold him down and appeared to kick [him],” documents said.

Clark County School District police arrested Fletcher at the school for an incident the day before.

Per the negotiated agreement with the bargaining unit, she will be placed on unpaid leave.

Fletcher posted a surety bond and was due to return to court in June.
