Man convicted in 2019 rape at Whitemarsh Island apartment complex

SAVANNAH, Ga. () — A man convicted in a 2019 Whitemarsh Island rape was sentenced to life without parole Friday.

Kasey Levi Lyons Dyak was convicted in May 2025.

On June 1, 2019, as per the Chatham County Police Department (CCPD), a woman experienced a terrifying wake-up call when a stranger broke into her Colonial Grand apartment and sexually assaulted her while she was asleep.

He had entered her apartment by cutting the screen door while she was sleeping, the Chatham County District Attorney’s (DA) Office said.

In 2023, Dyak was pinpointed as the suspect. His identification came during an inquiry into a separate sexual assault case in Florida, where his DNA was added to the CODIS (Combined DNA Index System). This DNA aligned with the sample collected from the victim in Chatham County back in 2019.
