SAVANNAH, Ga. () – A 14-year-old boy was shot in the Montgomery Landings Apartments Thursday where he later died at the hospital.

Another unidentified man was also shot and sustained a non-life-threatening injury.

The night of the shooting, Chatham County District Attorney (DA) Shalena Jones expressed that immediate measures must be taken to ensure the safety of Chatham County’s youth.

“It’s an issue that keeps me awake at night,” stated DA Jones, “It’s something that’s of paramount importance to us, particularly following the Oglethorpe Mall shooting.”

spoke to some neighbors, and although no one was willing to appear on camera, we discovered that the victim was shot near the 400 building, his residence where he lived with his family.

Two nights later, Saturday Sept. 20, gunfire was reported in the exact same area.

A spokesperson for the Savannah Police Department (SPD) said the incident was recorded as a Shotspotter report, and no one was injured.

Throughout the weekend, SPD monitored the complex and their presence remained throughout Monday.

There is no word on who shot the teenager yet, but DA Jones said the incident is emblematic of a greater problem in the area: youth and guns.

“This underscores the fact that not 90 days ago I was standing in front of a camera in the aftermath of the Oglethorpe Mall shooting, discussing young people in our community accessing guns, which is a layer of concern for us,” she mentioned, “It’s not just about young shooters and young victims. It’s the risk to the public.”

DA Jones has also called for a curfew for youth under the age of 18.

We asked SPD if a suspect has been identified and caught, and a spokesperson said no further information will be released at this time.
