Community Spotlight: 5th Annual Muncie Acorn Festival

Local Highlight: Celebrating the 5th Muncie Acorn Festival

MUNCIE, Ill. (WCIA) — Julie Wahls and Jessica Aquino from the Muncie Fall Festival Planning Committee joined WCIA’s Taylor Mitchell to discuss their annual Acorn Festival.

The Village of Muncie, established in 1875, is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a display of historical items for visitors. Wahls mentioned that the planning committee is considering a time capsule for attendees to contribute to, which will be opened in the future.

This year’s Acorn Festival will feature Sleepy Creek Vineyards for the first time. Until last year, Muncie was a “dry” community; however, a local ordinance passed in November 2024 now permits the sale of alcohol in the village, overturning a near-century-long prohibition.

More than 60 vendors, along with food trucks and music, will be available for participants at this year’s festival. The event is scheduled for Sept. 27 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Muncie Ballpark.
