Local law enforcement agencies mourn loss of GBI special agent

GLENNVILLE, Ga. () — Area law enforcement agencies are mourning the loss of Georgia Bureau Investigation (GBI) Special Agent Tracy Sands.

Numerous agencies, such as the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office, Metter Police Department, and Liberty County Sheriff’s Office, expressed their condolences and support following the announcement of his passing on Saturday.

The GBI, in a Facebook post, praised him, stating, “He served our community with dedication, integrity, and compassion. His unwavering commitment to his duty and the people of Georgia will always be remembered.”

Agencies shared their condolences to his family, friends, and fellow law enforcement officers during this time.

As expressed by the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Office, “Tracy was more than just a colleague — he was part of our family. His commitment, generosity, and presence brought strength and unity to our office, and his absence will be profoundly felt. Our deepest sympathies are with his cherished wife Melissa, his son Matthew, and the entire Sands family.”

“The GBI Family mourns the loss of one of our own. Gone too soon, but forever remembered. Rest in peace, Special Agent Sands.”
