A shooting occurred on Friday morning at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, leading to a shelter-in-place order after one person was fatally shot and another was injured. The suspect has not yet been apprehended and could still be on campus, according to the university.

Campus police reported receiving a call about gunfire at Casas del Rio, which is a student housing facility, where they discovered two individuals with gunshot injuries.

One person was pronounced dead and the other sustained non-life-threatening injuries, the university said in a post on social media.

“For safety reasons, UNM has shut down its central campus in Albuquerque,” the university announced. “Multiple law enforcement agencies are present and conducting an active investigation.”

According to NBC affiliate KOB 4 of Albuquerque, new student orientation was being held at the school at the time of the shooting.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
