Machete Intruder's Shocking Motive: Why He Chose Prison Over Freedom

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A dramatic arrest unfolded in Fort Wayne on Wednesday night when a man brandishing a machete broke into a home, demanding cash and threatening to kill the occupants.

The suspect’s intentions were reportedly expressed earlier that evening to shoppers at a local Target store, where he allegedly shared his plans.

Tyler Allison, 21, is now facing multiple serious charges, including attempted murder, burglary, intimidation with a deadly weapon, and criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon.

In related news, the father of missing baby Emmanuel Haro has pled guilty to murder.

Details from Allen Superior Court indicate that a woman dialed 911 shortly after 9 p.m., during which she could be overheard insisting she had nothing to give. Police dispatch suspected a theft or armed robbery was underway.

Upon arriving at the scene, a Fort Wayne Police Department officer heard shouting from inside the residence. Through a window, he observed Allison swinging a machete at two individuals, as stated in court records. With the front door left open, the officer was able to swiftly apprehend Allison.

Two of the witnesses said Allison walked through the unlocked door uninvited. He was armed with the machete and demanded money. He was given $140, but demanded more, according to court documents.

At some point, Allison slashed one of the victims’ faces with the machete and they had to be treated at a hospital for a laceration on the side of their face “which caused lots of bleeding,” the responding officer described in court documents.

Two other witnesses told the police they had been sleeping in the basement when they heard screaming. They went upstairs and heard Allison say “I’m going to kill you,” according to court documents. Allison then allegedly pointed the machete at one of them.

Not long before the break-in, officers had responded to a nearby Target, where it was reported a mentally ill man was making “alarming statements” about breaking into a home, murdering the residents and spending the rest of his life in prison.

Investigators later interviewed Allison and he admitted to everything. According to court documents, he said he believed prison life would be better and his plan was to rob a house and kill anyone inside.

“He stated that ‘unfortunately’ he did not get to all of that,” police wrote in court documents.

Allison’s initial court hearing is scheduled for Friday.
