Professional football is set to make its way to Savannah, Georgia, as announced by Adam McLean, the commissioner of a new professional football fall league called Major League Football.

Savannah has been chosen to represent the entire state of Georgia in this new 24-team league. However, some key details regarding the Georgia franchise are still being finalized.

The team currently lacks an official name. The commissioner mentioned that the league has submitted three trademark applications for potential names, with an announcement expected in about two weeks.

As for the head coach, McLean said, “We’ve got a guy that we are about to hire. He has not been notified yet. We are also here in town to interview and hire other coaches for offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator.” It is not usually for league commissioners to be involved in the hiring process of head coaches or coaching staffs. The team owner typically hires the head coach. Then, the head coach hires his staff.

As for where the team will play, McLean will said they are in discussions with Chatham County about using Memorial Stadium. According to McLean, he spoke with Savannah State for two years trying to reach an agreement that never materialized. reached out to Chatham County Parks & Recreation Department Recreation Supervisor Zachary Bailey who confirmed a meeting will take place June 4 at 11 a.m. to see if an agreement on eight dates in the fall can be finalized.

McLean also said fans have the opportunity to be owners in the Georgia franchise or any franchise in the league.

“Fans could actually become owners,” McLean said. “Broadridge Financial is handling our shares. They represent the Green Bay Packers and the Braves holdings. Any fans can go on majorleaguefootball.pro and actually become an owner of the Georgia franchise or any other franchise.”

The commissioner expects to release the schedule on July 1. Tryouts are expected to be at the end of July.

McLean said the league will not have a preseason this year. They want to have the playoffs in January and the championship game in February.
