Man arrested in the woods a day after crashing vehicle into Coles Co. pond

OAKLAND, Ill. (WCIA) — A 42-year-old Indiana resident was arrested on multiple charges on Tuesday, following an incident where he drove his car into a pond in Oakland.

The incident occurred on Monday around 11:28 p.m., as deputies from the Coles County Sheriff’s Office responded to a harassment report in the 100 block of E North St. in Oakland. Upon arriving, officers identified a suspicious vehicle and tried to initiate a traffic stop.

However, the driver attempted to escape, subsequently crashing the vehicle into a pond nearby. The suspect, later identified as Tony C. Kuhn, 42, from Terre Haute, Ind., then fled the scene on foot.

The next day at approximately 11:37 a.m., Kuhn was arrested in a wooded area south of Turn One Tire in Oakland. He was charged with residential burglary, criminal damage to property, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property and fleeing/eluding a peace officer.
