SMYTH COUNTY, Va. (WJHL) — A man was arrested Wednesday after allegedly driving through a home in Smyth County and fleeing the scene.
The Virginia State Police (VSP) announced that Raul C. Lemus, a 30-year-old from Adwolf, was taken into custody and charged with driving under the influence, a felony hit and run, and a misdemeanor hit and run.
Just after 9 p.m., troopers responded to a crash in the 400 block of Adwolfe Road.
According to VSP, a 1989 Dodge Pickup veered off the right side of the road and collided with a house. Lemus allegedly then removed his clothes and fled the area on foot.
“At around 11:40 p.m., Smyth County deputies found the suspect driving a tractor on Homestead Road,” noted VSP in the statement. “The tractor had hit a mailbox. The suspect [Lemus] tried to escape but was apprehended.”
A VSP spokesperson confirmed Lemus changed into other clothes before he was taken into custody.
The crash remains under investigation as of Thursday morning.
