PHOENIX (AP) — A man in Arizona found himself under arrest after authorities reported he tossed a sex toy into the audience at a WNBA game in Phoenix, marking a continuation of similar incidents at various league venues over recent days.

Officials state that the 18-year-old extracted the sex toy from his sweater pocket during Tuesday’s contest between the Phoenix Mercury and Connecticut Sun and hurled it towards the seats ahead of him, hitting a spectator on the back.

The individual later informed police that it was meant as a prank trending on social media, and he had purchased the toy a day before the event with the intention of bringing it. He was eventually subdued by a volunteer at the arena who had observed the act and tailed him as he attempted to depart the location.

Police say the man was arrested on suspicion of assault, disorderly conduct and publicly displaying explicit sexual material.

In the past week, sex toys have been thrown onto courts during games held in Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Chicago. In Los Angeles on Tuesday night, a sex toy was thrown from the stands, almost hitting Indiana’s Sophie Cunningham. Players have expressed that such actions are disrespectful and pose potential dangers.
