DENVER (KDVR) A man has been charged by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office after allegedly pointing a green laser at commercial airplanes.

On July 31, Colorado State Patrol said that the agency received reports from “multiple” commercial airline pilots saying that a green laser was being pointed into the cockpits of the aircraft they were working in.

The agency said that its aircraft unit located the suspect, Jose Duarte-Campos, 41, in Commerce City on East 64th Avenue.

While surveilling Duarte-Campos, CSP said they saw him allegedly pointing the laser at their aircraft unit multiple times.

The aircraft unit then directed ground troopers to Duarte-Campos’ location, where he then tried to drive to a new location, but was ultimately arrested, said CSP.

In a press release from the district attorney’s office, Duarte-Campos was listed as having charges of:

  • Felony charge of unlawfully aiming a laser device at an aircraft
  • Unlawful possession of a controlled substance
  • Driving under the influence
  • Driving under restraint

Duarte-Campos’ court appearance was on Wednesday, and the case was filed in Adams County District Court.
