One man shot in the leg, another shot in the feet 3 hours apart in Decatur

Man Injured by Gunshot to the Leg, Another Shot in the Feet Three Hours Later in Decatur

The Decatur Police Department is looking into two separate shooting incidents that occurred three hours apart on Wednesday night and resulted in two injuries.

The initial shooting took place near the intersection of Church and Decatur Streets around 9 p.m. According to Sergeant Timothy Maxwell, officers responded to reports of gunfire and discovered an 18-year-old male victim with a gunshot wound to his shin.

The teen was transported to an area hospital, where he received treatment for his wound. Maxwell said it was non-life-threatening.

“The victim advised he didn’t see anything, wouldn’t really give much of a statement,” Maxwell said.

The second shooting happened three hours later in the area of Leafland and Dennis Avenues. Maxwell said a 27-year-old man was shot in both feet.

“He advised he was getting out of his car when a car drove past and he heard shots,” Maxwell said.

The victim of that second shooting didn’t see the suspects either. He too was transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Sergeant Maxwell stated that investigations into both shooting incidents are still active. Those with any information are urged to reach out to the Decatur Police Department or Macon County Crime Stoppers.
