Mattoon Movie Theater Revival: Grand Reopening Set for December 2023

MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — A fresh chapter is set to begin for Mattoon’s movie enthusiasts, as officials have announced the reopening of the town’s theater, previously closed by AMC, under new management.

On Monday, VIP Cinemas revealed its plans to revive the 10-screen theater by the end of the year. The company promises an enhanced experience with an expanded menu, more competitive pricing, and extended operating hours.

Josh Ward, Director of Operations for VIP Cinemas, shared in a press statement, “Our initial focus is on essential repairs and upgrading the projection and sound systems to ensure a top-notch viewing experience. Over the next year, further changes will be implemented. We’re thrilled to revitalize a theater that’s integral to the community. Locals have expressed their relief and excitement about the return of their beloved movie destination.”

Renamed “VIP Mattoon 10,” the theater is set to introduce new seating and a broader selection of films in the upcoming year, according to VIP officials.

VIP Cinemas primarily operates in the Midwest, with locations across Illinois, including Carbondale, Lincoln, Macomb, Moline, Morton, Ottawa, and Quincy, in addition to Mattoon.

Mattoon’s theater is located at 2509 Hurst Drive. It was built in 1995 by Kerasotes Theatres. Once the theater reopens, showtimes, pricing, and promotions can be found on VIP’s website.
