MARION, Va. — A man involved in a shooting incident at the Marion farmers market in May 2024 was found guilty on Thursday, as reported by WJHL.
Andre Douglas Hickman, a 21-year-old from Tazewell, Virginia, was convicted of aggravated malicious wounding and using a firearm during the commission of a felony. These charges were confirmed by the Smyth County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
The incident occurred on May 3, 2024, when Hickman, then 20 years old, shot a 17-year-old in the abdomen. Fortunately, the victim survived, according to the attorney’s office.
Initially, Marion police had stated that Hickman was 19 at the time of the shooting.
Following the conviction, the court granted the victim a lifetime protective order against Hickman.
Hickman is set to be sentenced on February 12, 2026.
