McCORMICK COUNTY, S.C. () – The McCormick County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday an inmate has escaped custody from its local detention center.
A Facebook post dated July 17 announced that the individual has been identified as Karlon N. Wakefield, who resides in the McCormick area. He is reported to be 5’10” tall and weighs 220 pounds.
The statement details that multiple agencies and departments are involved in the operation, including SLED, DNR, SCHP, the town’s police department, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office. The search efforts are being supported by K9 units, helicopters, and drones, with the search concentrated around Cherry Street between Hammond and South Main.

According to the sheriff’s office, a cash reward is being offered “for accurate info leading to pertinent information that secures an arrest.”
