Consulate General of Mexico releases update on ICE raid

ATLANTA, Ga. () — The Mexican Consulate General in Atlanta has shared a recent update regarding the ICE operation at the Hyundai facility, where 475 individuals were detained Thursday morning.

The Consulate confirmed that among those detained, only 23 are Mexican nationals. These individuals have been taken to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Processing Center located in Folkston, which is set to become the most extensive immigration detention facility in the southern region.

Personnel from the Consulate General have engaged with Mexican workers from the Hyundai facility who requested personal interviews and have stayed in touch with their families to provide assistance.

Consulate staff offered legal guidance to those detained at the ICE Processing Center, ensuring their physical well-being and inspecting the conditions within the detention facility.

The update indicates that a significant number of detainees opted to sign for voluntary departure and are anticipated to return to Mexico soon. However, the precise figure of those opting for voluntary departure was not disclosed.
