Michigan family raising money to get relative home who died in Mattoon accident

MATTOON, Ill. (WCIA) — A family in Michigan is trying to bring their relative back home after he was hit and killed in Mattoon last month.

The Coles County Sheriff’s Office reported that on July 23, Earon Criswell, aged 35 and from Mattoon, was riding a mini bike near the intersection of Old State Road and County Road 400 East. He was struck by an SUV and succumbed to his injuries two days later at Carle Hospital.

Earon is originally from Detroit, and now his family is asking for help in getting him back to his hometown.

“In my eyes, my dad was incredibly strong, kind, and supportive,” shared Earyies Criswell, Earon’s eldest daughter. “He was more than a father to us; he was like a hero—a Superman, as we like to call him.”

The Criswell family mentioned that donations they receive will aid in covering funeral costs and ensure a proper burial for Earon. To contribute to the family’s GoFundMe page, click here.
