WATSEKA, Ill. (WCIA) — During a traffic stop conducted by Iroquois County sheriff’s deputies over the weekend, a man with an outstanding warrant attempted to evade capture by climbing into the vehicle’s trunk. However, his efforts were unsuccessful.

The unusual event took place on October 4, according to the Iroquois County Sheriff’s Office. Passenger Kelly Wilson, 52, attempted to conceal himself by entering the trunk from within the car during the stop. Authorities reported that Wilson was wanted in Kankakee County for failing to appear in court after facing retail theft charges.

While engaging with the car’s driver, 70-year-old Theresa Fowler from Watseka, deputies found sufficient cause to search the car. They discovered what appeared to be methamphetamine on Fowler’s person, alongside finding Wilson hiding in the trunk.

Fowler was taken into custody, facing charges of possessing methamphetamine and aiding a fugitive. She was subsequently released with a notice to appear in court.

Wilson, meanwhile, was booked into the Iroquois County Jail on the warrant and was later extradited to Kankakee County.
