ST. CHARLES, Mo. – A St. Charles woman is in custody for fatally shooting and stabbing her teenage son while he slept in bed.

Lt. Daniel Gibbons, a spokesman for the St. Charles Police Department, stated that a homicide occurred over the weekend at a residence located in the 3200 block of Lightfoot Drive.

Police received requests for welfare checks for a 16-year-old who lived in the residence.

Just before 11 a.m. Monday, police went to the home and found the teenager dead.

Investigators learned the teen’s mother, identified as Krista Roy, 47, had attempted to take her own life earlier in the day and was at the hospital.

Police said detectives went to the hospital and detained Roy after she was released. Roy admitted admitted killing her son during questioning.

Roy told detectives she took her ex-husband’s Bersa .380 from his home on Sept. 26 and intended to shoot her son and turn the gun on herself.

Roy confessed to authorities that after shooting her son while he was asleep, she lay beside him in bed. Upon hearing him cry out, she felt compelled to go to the kitchen for a knife and fatally stab him to “end his suffering.”

The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has filed charges against Roy for first-degree murder and armed criminal action. She is currently in jail with bail set at $1 million, cash-only.

Roy has been moved to the St. Charles County Jail
