In Sullivan County, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) disclosed in a report that a man was arrested in Bristol on Sunday following the use of spike strips during a chase that had its origins in North Carolina.
On that Sunday morning at 9:40 a.m., a report indicated that the THP was alerted about a stolen car being pursued from North Carolina along Highway 421 into Tennessee.
“The pursuit was initially stopped by the North Carolina agency at the state border, where deputies from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office found the vehicle and resumed the chase,” according to the report.
Deputies then pursued the vehicle into Sullivan County, the report said.
THP officers successfully used spike strips on the Highway 421 bridge, causing the vehicle’s right rear tire to deflate, as per the report. The driver of the HR-V then stopped on Pennsylvania Avenue close to State Street and was subsequently arrested.
The driver was identified as Joshua T. Gragg, 39, of North Carolina, according to the THP.
The report identified Gragg as facing charges that include Possession of Stolen Property Over $10,000, Felony Evading, Reckless Endangerment, Driving on a Suspended License, Reckless Driving, Speeding, and Improper Passing.
