New Dining Spot Opens as Beloved Paxton Restaurant Prepares to Close

PAXTON, Ill. (WCIA) — In a tale of two eateries, Paxton welcomes a new dining venue as another bids farewell. After two years of service, one local establishment is closing, while a fresh face in the culinary scene has just celebrated its grand opening.

Wednesday saw the Paxton Area Chamber of Commerce hosting a ribbon-cutting for Oakwood & Fire Pizzeria. Situated at 560 John Street, conveniently near I-57, this new spot offers a menu featuring wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas and calzones, promising to bring a taste of Italy to the community.

Meanwhile, in a Thursday Facebook announcement, Market Street Grill shared the bittersweet news of its upcoming closure. The restaurant, a staple for two years, will serve its last customers on October 30.

Market Street Grill expressed that the choice to close was a tough one, emphasizing their appreciation for the support received from patrons. They advised anyone holding a gift card to redeem it before the closing date.

“We deeply thank our loyal customers, dedicated staff, and talented musicians who have been part of our story,” the post from Market Street Grill read. “We hope you’ve made cherished memories with us and encourage you to continue supporting other local eateries in downtown Paxton. Paxton residents are encouraged to continuing visiting Market Street Grill over the next two weeks during their normal business hours: Tuesday-Saturday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. This Friday and Saturday the restaurant is offering its country fried steak.
