Crime rate drops in Georgia according to new report

AUGUSTA – A recent report indicates a decrease in crime rates within Georgia.

“Violent crime has decreased by 4.5 percent nationwide and by 10 percent in Georgia,” noted FBI Special Agent Paul Brown.

In Georgia, statistics reveal a 5.1 percent decrease in murders and a 10 percent drop in property crime, both falling well below the national figures.

“Our goal is zero, and we won’t rest until that’s achieved. Everyone has the right to safety,” stated Brown.

The FBI collaborates with state, local, and federal entities such as DHS and GBI.

They also are rolling out a 30-day initiative, like Operation Summer Heat, to target high-crime zones and bring down violent incidents.

“FBI Director Kash Patel added 15 new agents focused solely on violent crime here in Georgia,” said Brown.

The FBI says the joint task forces are working to help issue federal warrants, dismantle gangs and keep communities safer.

In 2024, 64 officers were killed in the line of duty.
